Zheng were musical instrument used in the army , espelially when the nobles of the Guo State followed imperial court of Zhou Dynasty to go on punitive expedition . A set of zhongs was named chime , Which was often played with chime of sonorous stones for nobles in banquet and offering sacrifices to gods ( or ancestors) . The volume of zhongs was up to the size of the resonator and the change of the audio frequency the bulge part . We know from this the deep understanding of the music theory and instruments of the people at that time . The singers and dancers performed with bronze chime and chime of sonorous stones . It's easy for us to imagine luxurious life of nobles of the Guo State .
